Having
a look at facts and figures of synthetic leather business world
wide, what saddens me is that Pakistan literally stands nowhere.
What soothes me a little is the fact that this country is full of
potentials. If the right atmosphere is provided to our gifted
craftsmen, we have all the reasons to rise and shine and there is no
reason for us to lag behind.
We
are already in apposition to compete in the international market on
quality. I would take the opportunity to call upon the government to
reconsider the duty structure applied to different articles related
to our industry. If this is done, we would also become competitive
in price and export huge volumes competitively, not only in raw
materials but finished products as well.
The
proof of our country’s immense potential to compete well with the
world lies in the excellent performance of the organized sector.
Exports could be multiplied if serious efforts are made towards
organizing the cottage industry of footwear, which in its size and
potential is many times bigger than the organized sector.
On
part of ATS, I would like to assure my fellow manufacturers that, as
in the past we will continue to provide them all the support in
terms of latest technology designs and styles to keep them current
